What he is known for

Sternberg is best known for the triarchic theory of intelligence and for developing alternatives to the standard IQ test.

His impact on education and/or how his theory(ies) adds to our knowledge of learning transfer:  As a child, Robert Sternberg performed poorly on standardized tests although he knew he was an intelligent person.  This led him to believe that standardized tests, including IQ tests, were poor measures of knowledge and abilities. (Cherry, n.d.)  As a psychologist and educator, this led him to develop the triarchic theory of intelligence and its implications on teaching and testing.

Any suggested teaching/facilitation methods

-Give different types of assignments (analytical, creative, and practical)

-Test in the same manner as the assignments given (analytical, creative, and practical)

-Address all three types of intelligence because they can all be developed
